Short Guide to Your Job Interview Preparation ("Personal Experiences")

Internet is replete with tonnes of material on tips to prepare well or to crack an interview. I would like to sum up few of them:

1. Interview offers an opportunity to obtain an insight about the company, work culture, job role, my reporting and so on. So, foremost remain confident, rather than taking too much time on preparing yourself for an interview, do take time in interviewing (be polite and careful with your question set) the other person as well.

At times, what all job description says is not actually true or even similar to what is being offered.

2. Interview must be either an inperson or a Virtual Interview. Don't ever make a mistake of giving an interview where you are not able to see the other person. Incase office is located at a far away location then it's always advisable to request for first virtual round prior rather than wasting your time and money. Incase the recruiter is understandable, he/she won't behave stubbornly and this also reflects on the culture at work which is prevalent. I have seen cases, where companies do send back the candidates in F2F interview who simply don't clear their basic written round of Test.

3. Behavioural Round: Nowadays, mostly for non technical positions and even some times for technical positions the interview round becomes Behavoural or Scenario based. Here the interviewer expects from you to give detailed answer with examples. So, don't bluff (you will be caught), this is another area which one has to be prepared with. An example could be tell me an instance where you handled escalation, or had to lead a team or had to work beyond office hours to complete deadline and so on.

I personally feel, interview is nothing but a mind battle between two people (interviewer and interviewee) and the winner is one who prepares it well. It's not necessary that Behavioural Question round only an interviewer can fire at you, even you can ask similar scenario based questions and get useful insights. Interview is not only a job giver interviewing a job seeker but it also can involve question session from job seeker but do remember your questions should be well prepared, in the josh of asking questions you should not look like a amateur or naivete.
